back cove 39O

The Back Cove 39O is the fastest and quietest Back Cove model yet.

On the exterior, she features the signature style of the latest PRESTIGE Yachts, with an expanded, continuous line of windows in the hull. This Flybridge integrates the concept of the L-shaped cockpit, which allows for maximum use of space. Transformable into a very large aft sundeck, this cockpit can also house a fully equipped skipper cabin.Though Back Cove Yachts was founded back in 2003, it can rightfully consider itself to be part of a Maine boating tradition that stretches back some four centuries. The very first Downeast boats to sail up and down this state’s picturesque coast were hand-crafted from the fresh-felled maples and spruce that grew nearby, and were designed to maintain enough stability in coarse waters to give fishermen time to haul in their catch.

The first set of 39Os to leave the Back Cove boatyard in 2020 were fitted with triple 350MHP Suzuki DF outboards, powerful modern engines that delivered pulsating top speeds of 40 knots and a range of 357 nautical miles at a swift 28 knot cruising pace. The newest lot of 39Os go one step further, equipped with three 400mhp Mercury Verado diesel outboards capable of full-throttle speeds touching the 45-knot mark and a cruising pace that clips along at 34 knots.

Speed alone, however, does not guarantee high-performance when you need it. For that, a team of over 200 experienced artisans and craftsmen, armed with an artist’s touch, plenty of muscle and the latest in construction technology, were put to work to design a 41-foot, resin-infused, modified deep-V hull that is balanced in swells, swift on the turn and rugged enough for long-distance coastal cruising. Each 39O features a proprietary Trailing Edge Lifting Surface and an outboard-optimized hull for an innately smooth ride, while navigation tools at the cherry-lined helm include Zipwake Interceptor tabs, Side Power bow thrusters, ultra-responsive SkyHook joystick handling and an 18-inch wood-grained Stazo steering wheel for those who prefer to tackle the seas head-on. To help you chart your independent path out towards the horizon, the starboard helm also features a pair of Garmin Multi-function touch screens, engine feedback display, Icom VHF radio and an illuminated compass. A Llebroc helm seat in leather with footrests keeps you comfortable as you beat the sunrise and harbor traffic on pristine early morning voyages, while an almost 360-degree line-of-sight is guaranteed thanks to sloping windscreen glazing and expansive side and rear windows. This is also a remarkably quiet boat to command, thanks to engines that are pushed far-aft, sound mitigation throughout and a salon that is sealed shut from biting breezes, with noise levels barely, if ever, breaching the 80-decibel mark.

This is a yacht that hides its modernity well. A traditional profile with bulwarks that slope to stern, impeccable brightwork in teak and steel, a painted hull in dignified navy blue and a captivating superstructure that echoes the boats of yore resounds with a genteel New England elegance that is as simple as it is smart. Guests will naturally gravitate to the timber-lined aft-cockpit and enjoy the views to stern while comfortably seated at a mezzanine sofa in piped upholstery that is positioned under a hard-top canopy awning with an extending sunshade. A U-shaped transom sofa with unimpeded sunshine, a pair of chaise-longue arms and cushioned backrests surrounds a teak-topped dining table perfect for shucking fresh oysters and pouring glasses of crisp Sancerre. Family friendly boarding back here is guaranteed via a pair of glazed transom gates and access either side of the outboards. This route to dock also doubles as a teak-lined bathing platform with opportunities to dive into crystal clear waters to port and starboard. Because there are no inboards on this model adventurous guests will be pleased to note that a large actuated hatch built into the cockpit sole leads to an expansive transom locker for water toys, tackle and gear.

If a sudden chill descends then head into the climate-controlled salon, a sedate and bright space with gently vaulted ceilings, cherry paneling, a teak-and-holly sole, a set of four opening windows and above-helm skylights. There is a U-shaped dining sofa in white leather to starboard that hugs a teak table with maple inlay, while to port there is an open galley with sparkling Corian work surfaces, under-counter Vitrifrigo fridge-freezer units, a two-zone hob, a combination microwave and a steel sink with a Hafele tip-out tray.

Lower-deck interiors are less utilitarian lobster boat and more vintage Herreshoff, impressing with warm cherry paneling, oval portholes, leather furnishings and recessed mood lighting. Snuggle up and thumb the pages of your favorite Jack London novel while relaxing on an L-shaped sofa that can be turned into an extra bed for the night or tap into the yacht’s home entertainment system to pipe classic rock through the integrated Fusion speakers located throughout the upper and locker deck areas. To the bow there is a broad double island bed with a deep 8-inch mattress, cushioned headboards, a cedar-lined locker and hidden storage beneath the bed. To aft there is room for two more guests in an open twin room with varnished cherry walls, reading lamps, hanging lockers and a panoramic hull window. This entire, free-flowing lower-deck area will never feel cramped thanks to an atrium-like opening around the staircase that ensures a strong connection to the naturally lit upper level. The main head down here is no mere afterthought and more like a mini-spa with hand-crafted wooden cupboards, a large ceramic sink, a mirrored medicine cabinet and a waterfall shower cubicle with a tempered glass door and metal fixtures.
