regal 33 OBX

Sleek and stately, the Regal 33 OBX glides across the water like an Aeolian wind. This elemental feeling carries throughout the boat, where you, too, will glide, from the spacious swim platform to the plush bow. This is a day yacht in the truest sense of the word, built to sustain the fullest, most expansive experience out on the water from sunrise to sunset. And, thanks to a hardtop (with an optional retractable sunshade), you are free to lounge, grill, dine, drink, and even fish from the height of summer to the cooler months.

With the 33 OBX, Regal has ably risen to the challenge of devising a spacious swim platform on an outboard boat. Platforms on either side of the engines allow easy boarding from port and starboard, while a swim ladder to port invites users to safely enter and exit the water. Once aboard, admire the transom lounge, an adaptable multi-position seat: use it as aft-facing seating and lay out in the sun, or push the bolster back and transform it into a cockpit daybed. An optional electric sunshade extends all the way aft, offering excellent shelter from the sun when you’re exploring warmer waters.

The aft lounge is the heart of the boat, with a U-shaped sofa snaking out from the transom seat and curving up the portside. Removable tables make it easy to transform a lazy afternoon into a bright and vibrant dinner party followed by an exceptional cocktail hour (or two) at the nearby wet bar – all you have to do is bring your own bottle. Here, an electric grill, a sink with collapsible faucet, and a trash can are hidden beneath a sleek, glossy Corian countertop that streamlines the space and makes clean-up a breeze. A drawer refrigerator will keep your provisions cool, while a small built-in storage area offers space for bitters, hot sauces, and other small non-perishables.

For movie nights, game nights, or morning cartoons, a nifty pop-up television is also integrated into the wet bar. A Fusion Bluetooth stereo system and ARX wireless remote allows resident DJs to set the mood via eight 200-watt Fusion Marine Sound cockpit speakers. Stainless drink holders throughout offer a robust and convenient way to keep your drink in its glass while you’re underway.

Though the 33 OBX is no megayacht, it offers ample space for storage thanks to Regal’s clever design. Storage under the transom seat opens on a hydraulic lift with the touch of the button, offering access to the generator, batteries, and plenty of room for equipment and toys. More storage is available underneath every seat in the aft cockpit, with gas-assisted rams for ease of access.

The layout of this boat’s serene and open interior encourages free-flowing, inclusive conversation. The U-shaped social area wraps toward the helm, allowing guests to mingle with the captain, who will never feel left out of the fun. Yet the helm itself allows operators to fully focus, drinking in the surroundings from a premium handstitched vinyl-wrapped dash with a 7-inch Garmin navigation touchscreen. Thanks to twin 300-horsepower Yamaha engines with integrated steering, you’ll be in full control, whether you’re topping out at max speeds of 48MPH or enjoying a more relaxed cruising speed of 20 knots. A portside social seat features a bolster that allows users to face aft or forward, depending on the occasion, with deep storage underneath. Some of the technical options include a Helm Master EX boat control system with joystick offers precise maneuverability even in tight spaces, while a Seakeeper 2 battles 95% of boat roll to ensure the smoothest ride possible.

While the high finish and sociable layout of this boat are sure to lure discerning yacht enthusiasts, there are two luxurious features aboard the 33 OBX that will really help you make the most out of your time on the water: a surprisingly well-appointed and cleverly designed head, which can be found behind the portside social seat’s dashboard, and a quarter berth located at the bow. Although many heads on boats of this class can be disappointing, entering the head here is like stepping into a hidden world. A long, horizontal porthole provides ample natural light, while driftwood cabinetry and a vessel sink elevate the space around the silent-flush toilet, which sits on a convenient platform. Wood-inlaid flooring and a little ledge beneath the porthole impart a calm, warm feel.

Through the folding windshield and out onto the bow, the quarter berth is the last thing you’d expect. Nestled to port amidst the ample, wraparound lounge seating is a small but comfortable cabin hidden, Narnia-like, behind one of the starboard seats. Optional air conditioning and a porthole are available to further enhance comfort. This is the perfect spot to catch a few winks in between swimming and picnics on the beach – this last activity made all the easier by a designated anchor locker.
