regal 33 XO

Some yachts can reach places and do things that others can’t. Some can exceed 43 knots and retain their poise, fit the entire family aboard for a weekend of boating, or touch the fringes of a sugar-white tropical beach, and others can’t. The Regal 33 XO? It’s a can-do boat firmly in the former category, capable of sidling up to a distant sandbar, entertaining a host of close friends or family, skipping along the surface of the sea at high speeds, and delivering those perfect on-the-water moments you have long been lusting after. And what’s more, it does all this not with conventional in-boards, but with a twin-set of modern, responsive and rugged outboards, ready to whip the water into a frenzy as you shoot away from land.

Connoisseurs will recognize the signature Regal looks and built quality on this hugely stylish yacht. Clam-shell curves with a gentle slope both to the bow and to stern are joined by swooping lines, a raked-back tempered windshield, a raised Power Tower and glazing that cuts an angular dash through the hull sides. Coat this vessel in your choice of bold or demure paint jobs, with livery colors including Bimini Blue, Tahiti Beach White or Steel Gray. Deck surfaces come in non-slip Seagrass or durable SeaDek, seating options are covered in marine-grade, diamond-stitched upholstery with a leather-like sheen, while cleats, grab-rails and fender clips boast a shimmering, stainless steel finish.

Bookended by two sumptuous sunpads larger and more comfortable than any found on a Gulf Coast beach, this is a yacht that encourages you to develop a rich summer tan. To the rear there is a multi-position sun-lounge capable of hosting a couple of guests that benefits from a fold-down backrest. Push it all the way flat and spread out your limbs as you absorb the rays, or lift it into position to turn the sunpad into a pair of sofas, one facing the convivial cockpit and the other presenting guests with pristine sea-views to stern. Out on the foredeck, meanwhile, there is a two-pad, double-width sunpad where a couple will enjoy admiring the marina-facing views as they soak up the sun.

This model’s cockpit feels deceptively spacious thanks to a thoughtful layout that takes full advantage of a wider than usual 10-foot and 4-inch beam, with an L-shaped lounge sofa to port ready to host family and friends in sheer comfort. Cushioned back-rests, integrated cup-holders and a pop-up cockpit table lined in teak capable of hosting evening meals give this space an at-home feel even while you are far from land, while hidden speakers built into the structure are linked to a Fusion Apollo marine stereo system for crisp tunes throughout the day. Most buyers will also opt to install a wet bar station back here, with an under-counter refrigerator, a steel sink with a mixer-tap and an outdoor electric grill ready to keep your drinks chilled, guests refreshed and your burgers sizzling hot.

A transparent transom gate and a couple of steps lead to a wrap-around bathing deck to stern, with two platforms either side of the outboards from where the kids can dive into the turquoise waters. A swim ladder makes reboarding safe and easy, while a transom shower is on hand for a quick wash-down. An extra advantage of placing the engines flush of the hull itself is that it opens up space to transom for a cavernous lazarette storage locker, conveniently placed under the rear sunpad. In here you can store watersports gear, a lifebuoy and even a couple of Seabobs for thrilling in-the-water activities, while extra gas-assisted compartments are hidden under the seating.

The Regal 33 XO is not only a true overnighter with below-deck sleeping quarters for up to four guests, but manages to fit a live-aboard lounge down here, too. Take shelter from inclement maritime conditions by retreating into a spacious and elegant salon with dynamic side glazing, a trio of skylights, a toasted oak sole and leather-effect surrounds. An L-shaped sofa can seat up to six and faces an open and fully equipped galley with a fridge, a sink and a combination microwave oven. Forward of this is a double bed located up by the bow, while to aft there is a snug sleeping area with a king-sized bed. Elevated storage, a wall-mounted HDTV, climate-control and the largest wet-head in its class complete the offering down here.

The combination of outboard engines and a shallow draft of just 33-inches with the motors down opens up a whole new set of coastal destinations that you are now able to reach. Head through the languid shallows of the Everglades, glide through tropical Caribbean lagoons or park your vessel mere steps away from a secret beach on some long-forgotten treasure island. Alternatively, the C. Raymond Hunt-designed hull will prove an admirable, balanced and stable performer in the open seas, keeping guests dry and secure as this vessel carves through the waves. A sporty performer, you can expect top speeds edging over the 43 knot mark due to a pair of 300HP Yamaha V6 4.2L F300 outboard motors standing tall at the stern. Acceleration is no less impressive, with a speed of 30mph reached in as little as 7 seconds, making this a great option for keen racers.

Both experienced and novice pilots, meanwhile, will enjoy taking charge of the helm, where a twin bench sofa with a flip-down footrest provides an ergonomic and comfortable setting for navigation. A Yamaha helm package includes joystick handling for a responsive ride, while bow thrusters are on hand to provide inch-perfect docking. Handheld VHF, a power-assisted steering wheel, chunky digital throttles, autopilot and plenty of gauges are dotted across the dashboard, while a Garmin 7612 touch-screen bundles together next-generation instrumentation in one high-tech screen.
