regal 36 Grande Coupe

The rope slips off the dock cleat, your hull starts shifting through the placid waters of the marina, and before you know it, you’re riding a succession of coastal swells out to the horizon. You are aboard the Regal 36 Grande Coupe for the first time, with one hand on the steering wheel, another gripping a flask of freshly brewed Java. You won’t see dry land again for days. And, you don’t know it right now, but you’re about to fall in love.

An immediate showstopper when it was launched in 2021, the Regal 36 Grande Coupe is a 37-foot stern-drive powered coupe-style motoryacht with an evocative style, heart-pounding performance and an enchanting finish that will impress guests. Aerodynamic lines, a gelcoat in your choice of deluxe tones like Bimini Blue or Tahiti Beach White and cockpit glazing with the thinnest of frames give this vessel an almost ethereal look from profile – but don’t be fooled, this yacht has a real presence out on the water.

A resin-infused fiberglass hull with a 16-degree deadrise promotes satin-smooth sailing, a ballerina’s sense of balance and economical efficiency, while engines add something a little beefier: among other options, a pair of 430-horsepower Volvo engines capable of reaching up to 51 miles an hour. For long-range cruising, an economical cruise speed of 33 miles an hour should keep you out on the water all weekend, hitting up pristine marinas or charming port towns. This is a boat that really roars out of the blocks, getting up to plane in less than seven seconds, but one that glides like a Venetian gondola at slower speeds.

Enthusiastic captains, meanwhile, will likely become infatuated with a modern helm that makes even tricky navigation a real joy. Trim-tab switches and thruster controls are intuitively placed on the dashboard, while a Volvo Penta joystick on is on hand for super-responsive steering. Prefer the romance of an old-school steering wheel? This yacht has one in steel, while a 22-inch Garmin or Volvo Glass display screen includes next-generation functionality and Seakeeper 3 stabilizer controls are on hand to keep you balanced at zero-speed. Autopilot, a hand-held VHF radio and a FLIR night-vision camera round out the helm offering, where you will also encounter an adjustable helm seat with actuating footrests designed for comfort whether you enjoy sitting or standing as you command your vessel.

While most yachts in this class make do with a standard double sunpad out on the foredeck, this one proposes something a little different. Out here there is a multi-position seating area that can be turned into a daybed for three with integrated cupholders and a backrest or, when the lower cushions are positioned upright, a pair of forward-facing sofas for up to four. Transom seating is just as intriguing, featuring a broad rear sofa that faces a twin-seat with an adjustable backrest so that it can face the waves or the salon. A huge, full-beam Seadek swimming platform with an underwater power platform ensures everyone will have plenty of fun out on the water. Plenty of locker space throughout the boat will please watersports enthusiasts, who can use the platform to set off on snorkeling trips to brightly colored coral reefs and legendary seabed wrecks.

Wraparound salon glazing, an overhead sunroof and a walk-through windshield gives the sophisticated salon the airy feel of a viewing car, while it can also open up entirely at the rear for an unbeatable connection to the elements. Chic, handstitched upholstery in sedate tones sets the scene for memorable occasions with the whole family, while a plush Seagrass sole provides a sense of security underfoot. The best place to soak up the romance of the sea is on the port-side sofa, where you can spy migrating whales on their way to marine mating grounds on one side, and spectacular cliffs and coves on another. To starboard there is a wet bar and galley boasting a finish that drips with luxury. A marble-effect Corian countertop with beveled edges is as finely worked as any Renaissance sculpture, and frames not only a sink and a single-zone cooktop but a smokeless outdoor grill, too. A chunky refrigerator keeps your supplies chilled, while a trash compactor keeps deck-spaces neat and tidy. As you work to prepare gourmet meals for loved ones who will also appreciate the integrated Fusion stereo speakers that are dotted around the main-deck, helping to dictate the vibe, whether you are going for full-throttle partying or perhaps something a little more amorous.

Later, as the night draws in and the mercury drops, guests will be seduced by an intimate lower deck living area with a rich, toasted oak sole, driftwood surrounds and surprisingly capacious dimensions. There is a queen-sized cabin located by the bow that comes with a timber-lined locker, while to aft there is a cozy lounge with two sofas that can be used as twin beds. Across the center of this deck is a port-side loveseat and a starboard main head with a ceramic sink, a flush toilet, handcrafted cabinets and an enclosed shower cubicle. Spaces on this level enjoy climate-control, mood lighting, an HDTV built into the wall and horizontal strip glazing to accentuate the breezy feel down here. What’s not to love about Regal Boats?
