regal 38 SAV

Life is more spectacular at sea. Even the colors seem more vivid, the tones supersaturated. In bright summer sunshine the waves glisten as if painted in gold-leaf; on clear days the water reflects a brilliant blue topaz; even across winter the sea takes on the burnished tones of shimmering silver. Oceans rich in abundant life continually amaze with pods of playful dolphins, waving seagrasses and Humpback whales breaching the surface. The salt in the air, the subtle break of a calming capillary wave, a colony of gulls calling in unison. But to experience all that the sea truly has to offer you must have a boat that is just as spectacular. And that boat is the Regal 38 SAV. At once a rugged fishing vessel and a luxury overnighter, both a family-centric leisure craft and a thrill-seeker’s dream, this is also a yacht as stylish as any gliding into the harbor at Monte Carlo.

At night it will be the blue LED lighting system that attracts attention as this sleek vessel serenely drifts across the water. During the day it will be this model’s streamlined elegance, sloping lines to transom, a delicately floating hard-top and a slight tumblehome feel to aft that will draw admiring glances from naval connoisseurs. Paint your hull in a range of cool livery choices, including Belle Isle Blue, Bimini Blue or Tahiti Beach White, to complete the 38 SAV’s striking finish.

Eye-catching looks are joined by fish-catching prowess, with this model capable of holding its own in any tournament setting. Five flush rod-holders to transom are joined by Grand Slam telescopic outriggers and a rocket-launcher rack attached to the hard-top, while a pair of 33-gallon insulated in-sole lockers in the cockpit provide room for angling gear or fresh fish. Gunwale storage, meanwhile, can be used for rod storage, while a raw water wash-down hose, walk-around access to port, a casting platform up by the bow and a glazed and aerated aquarium-style livewell to aft complete the fishing amenities.

A non-slip SeaDek sole is complemented by plenty of teak step treads and stainless-steel grab-rails for a secure feel as you move about this yacht with either a rod or a chilled drink in hand. Access to the sea, meanwhile, is unparalleled thanks to not only a pair of transom gates leading out to swim platforms either side of the outboards but two wide dive-doors built into the cockpit bulwark from where the kids can enjoy warm-water swimming. A cockpit lazarette locker will be used to store dive and scuba gear, a pair of paddle board holders encourage a full-body, on-the-water workout, while a transom Lily-Pad holder will be enjoyed by those seeking laid-back moments floating out by isolated sand bars.

Your most cherished memories aboard this adaptable vessel, however, may well be spent relaxing on deck with friends and family. At 39 feet in length, with a beam touching almost 12 feet, there is plenty of room to breathe and express yourself. In the cockpit there is a fold-up transom sofa facing a mezzanine sofa, both in diamond-stitched, marine-grade upholstery, with an optional teak-lined table located between the two. In the bow-lounge there is plush wrap-around seating complete with backrests, cupholders and integrated speakers for an easygoing vibe. Fix a cocktail table into place and enjoy long card-games, light lunches and crisp white wine out here, or lower the table and cover it with a cushion to turn the bow-lounge into a decadent, casbah-style daybed perfect for curling up with a good book or working on your summer tan. You do not need to head below-decks to provide refreshments for guests out here, as a slide-out Yeti cooler hidden beneath the helm seats is on hand to keep your beers and sofas ice-cold, while a hefty wet-bar island in the cockpit features solid Mosaic or Strato Wind countertops, two fridges, an outdoor grill, a sink, a trash can and ample storage.

Perhaps it is because Regal Boats has been owned and operated entirely by the Kuck family for 50 years, but no other brand seems to take as much care to provide facilities for the whole household. That’s why, unusually for a boat in this class, there is a full-size lower-deck living area that transforms this yacht from a day-time runabout into something more akin to a sports cruiser. A toasted oak sole is joined by light hardwood surrounds, Snowcap fabrics, LED mood lighting, knife-insert glazing, air-conditioning and the sort of live-in spaciousness that will make you never want to set foot on dry land again. A sofa located up by the bow features an electronically actuated fold-down backrest that disappears to reveal a double V-berth. Two more sofas in the aft lounge connect to form a huge queen-sized bed at night, with plenty of storage hidden behind and beneath the cushions. Connecting these two sleeping quarters is an open mini-galley with storage and an integrated microwave ideal for preparing hot breakfasts, while a deluxe main head boasts mirrored cabinets, a ceramic bucket sink, a toilet and an entirely enclosed shower cubicle.

Spectacular speed can be added to the list of this boat’s exceptional qualities. It takes just 4.8 seconds for this boat to reach planing speeds, and not too long after that you will hit the 44-knot mark, the sort of speed that will leave rivals yachts in this class playing catch-up. Triple Yamaha F300 outboards may work best, however, at a comfortable pace of approximately 27 knots, a speed at which you will enjoy a cruising range of around 219 nautical miles. Leisurely cruising at a sight-seeing speed of 5.3 knots, the sort of sedate tempo that allows you to soak up stunning coastlines and spy the plethora of stunning aquatic life, pushes this range up to a long-haul 385 nautical miles, the perfect distance for long-weekends spent island-hopping from Miami to Key West and back again. An outboard optimized FasTrac hull, a much-emulated proprietary design from the in-house Regal team, emphasizes not only acceleration and agility in bluewater conditions but fuel-efficiency, too, making this a great ride for the price-conscious cruiser.

All that power is concentrated into a modern set of helm controls at this yacht’s center-console piloting station. An EX Helm Master joystick delivers an ultra-responsive way to steer this yacht to exactly where you need it, a feature that is only enhanced by bow thruster controls and trim-tab switches, while a stainless-steel steering wheel offers a more old-fashioned way to get to grips with the ocean. A Seakeeper 3 stabilizer comes as standard to keep those drinks from spilling, while SeaStar autopilot and virtual anchor help to deliver a user-friendly experience. Other essentials up here include two 16-inch Glass display screens with multi-functionality, along with hand-held VHF, a compass and, last but not least, a set of four cupholders, one for each adjustable helm seat.
