regal 42 FLY

A stunning example of Regal’s foray into the flybridge market, the 42 Fly is one of the brand’s sweetest offerings, bringing to mind the geometric perfection of confectionary: three exquisite, graduated tiers offer multiple levels of fun and relaxation, topped with elegant sunshades on the foredeck and flybridge. The icing on the cake? Owners can choose a range of impeccably glossy gelcoats, from creamy whites and blues to bold navy blues and greys.

Perfect for adventurers and free spirits, the 42 Fly is eminently adaptable, ideal for a range of waters – and weather – as varied as the Pacific Northwest and the Gulf of Mexico. With the salon doors thrown open to the spacious aft cockpit, this boat’s stylish versatility is on full view even when in dock, encouraging a seamless indoor-outdoor lifestyle before you even climb aboard. One of the most comfort-forward features of this boat, however, will only become visible once you step inside. Though the 42 Fly is a compact 42 feet, it is commodiously designed and built for the average-sized user, who is less likely to encounter tight squeezes and cramped spaces than typical boats in its class.

Regal’s design acumen is on its fullest display up on the flybridge. While many yachts in this class feature poky, cramped flybridges, the 42 Fly effortlessly bucks the trend with a sprawling upper salon layout. An L-shaped bench wrapped around a wood dining table, with plenty of room to move around as you and your guests enjoy an al fresco lunch. Keep charcuterie supplies or cold cuts in an optional cooler drawer, or chop up a niçoise salad on the Corian countertop. Well-equipped and serene, many users prefer piloting the 42 Fly from the upper helm, which features a sliding double-wide bench seat, Volvo Glass Cockpit Dash system, Garmin multi-function displays, joystick, controls, VHF radio, windlass control, and wide-open views of the water. A portside bench is also on hand for volunteer navigators – or sunbathers, should they decide to recline the seat, transforming this space into a luxe U-shaped sunpad.

Bright teak steps lead from the flybridge to the sumptuous ‘aft patio’, a stunning open-air cockpit lounge perfect for al fresco dining. A convivial L-shaped dining sofa extends along the length of the transom, curving starboard, where you will find a nifty smokeless grill station, perfect for steaks and skewers. Beneath the grill is a slide-out Isotherm refrigerator to store all your provisions. Sliding doors lead into the expansive salon, where guests are greeted by the main-deck galley and dining area. This elegant space features another stainless-steel refrigerator, a freezer, and stovetop and a sink hidden beneath the countertop. To port, a commodious U-shaped dinette with seating for six. The main-deck helmstation has many of the features of the flybridge helm, but, since it is sheltered by the interior, with slightly plusher upholstery. The captain’s chair, for instance, features a double-wide seat with a lift-up bolster to suit a range of piloting styles, whether you’re laid back in the seat cruising or standing to attention as you race along the water. The 42 Fly is equipped with twin Volvo Penta IPS 600 engines with a combined 870HP, which in Regal’s own tests reached top speeds of 41MPH with an ideal cruising speed of around 27MPH.

For fun out on the water, the 42 Fly enjoys a generous swim platform with ample options. Owners can choose a hydraulic fully submersible swim platform or an underwater PowerPlatform that completely submerges underwater with the touch of a button, ideal for easy water and boat entry. After a swim, you can climb up from the platform and walk the generous side-decks to the bow and dry off on the large sunpad. On your way there, peek through the full-height opening side windows and say hello to guests inside.

Below deck, an impressive open-air atrium with tons of natural light is sure to impress. This space can be configured to include a lower kitchenette or a second head. Those who opt for the kitchenette can expect a deep stainless-steel sink, refrigerator, generous countertop space with double-drawered storage, and a row of chic cabinets, ideal for cozy indoor entertainment. A horizontal window above the sink provides more light to this free-flowing space.

Just aft and behind Shoji-style pocket doors is the VIP suite, a spacious and versatile cabin with a king-sized bed that conveniently separates into two single beds. A long cut-out portlight frames the blue horizon above the bed, drawing in a surprising amount of natural light alongside warm sconces on either side. A big, fragrant cedar-lined armoire with storage drawers below offers a discreet, safe place for your belongings. Nearby, a long, plush settee sits beneath another large portlight, perfect for curling up with a book in the evening or catching up on your favorite shows with the 32-inch television that folds out on a 90-degree hinge. Owners may want to call dibs on this cabin given its generous proportions, which open out onto the kitchenette when desired for a free-flowing feel. This room is also ideal for guests, especially kids or teenagers who wish to lay claim to their own space.
The forward owner’s suite is as sumptuous as its slightly larger sister, with a plush Olympic queen bed and plenty of walkaround room. Storage built into the bed offers easy access to your belongings, as do discreet cedar-lined hanging lockers. An opening skylight introduces gentle natural light and marvelous vertical views while the sea breeze gently circulates through the room. In this configuration, owners and guests enjoy separate access to a shared head; those who wish for a little more privacy can swap out the kitchenette for a two-head layout. Even so, the single head is well-appointed, with teak floors and a sumptuous teak shower seat, perfect for unwinding after a day of intense activity out on the water. A solid surface countertop and vessel sink give this space a pristine, calm feel. As you brush your teeth in the morning, you can look out the horizontal porthole at the rhythmic blue waves.
