regal 42 XO

If a yacht could talk it would tell of romantic journeys across the seas. From the palm-studded coasts of tropical Tahiti and the natural half-moon harbor at Catalina to the sugarcane beaches of Florida’s Gulf Coast or simply the nostalgic sight of a driftwood jetty with plenty of homespun, old-time charm: your embarkation point for Nantucket. Yet sometimes a boat does just that: it speaks to you. Perhaps this is why the Regal 42 XO, a sleek, modern 44-foot outboard-powered sportboat, has been such an instant success with discerning clients around the globe since it was first launched to the public in 2021. It foretells magical moments spent on the water with the whole family, and articulates the refined, reliable build-quality on which Regal have staked their reputation for over half a century.

This vessel announces itself to the world through its great looks, as a curved coupe-style hard-top combines with a sculptural over-hang, geometric side glazing, an assertive bow entry and a profile that slopes down toward the transom. Paint a demure Belle Isle Blue gel-coating across the hull-sides, or perhaps add something louder in the form of a flame red boot-stripe that catches the eye at full-speed.

A superb mover on the water, this yacht benefits from a shallow draft of just 33-inches and sandbar-friendly outboard motors, making this the perfect option for coasting through the azure shallows that other vessels find hard to reach. Yet this watercraft is equally adept at roaring through oceanic swells off the coastline of your choice thanks to a proprietary hull crafted from lightweight and durable reinforced fiberglass. This is a vessel with plenty to say out on the water. It is assertive on the waves, confident on the turn, with the sort of aggressive pace to shout about. As you hit higher speeds you will discover that this yacht doesn’t just speak: it sings. Top speeds edging over the 43 knot mark are the product of three Yamaha V8 F425 outboards, while smooth cruising speeds clock in at around 32 knots. A tank holding 500 gallons of fuel, meanwhile, will keep you voyaging for days on end without having to step foot on dry land for a top up, making this a great option for live-aboard adventurers.

The outboards are linked to the yacht’s main-deck helm, located to starboard at the front of the salon. An extra-wide piloting seat with padded backrests faces sloped windscreen glazing and an ergonomic dashboard with a hand-wrapped, power-assisted steering wheel, LED-lit trim-tab switches, a Yamaha joystick and Penta binnacle controls for ultra-responsive piloting and inch-perfect docking in those busy marina settings. A twin-set of Garmin 8616xsv touchscreens bundle together instrumentation in one high-tech package, while user-friendly autopilot and Seakeeper 3 stabilizer switches add convenient navigation and stability respectively.

Aft of the helm you will discover a spacious salon with highlights including a toasted oak sole, coastal driftwood surrounds, pillow-soft carpeting, a retractable sunroof, wrap-around glazing and steel fixtures throughout. To port there is a U-shaped leather sofa hugging a lengthy dining table that can be lowered into place and covered with a filler cushion to transform this space into a sprawling, decadent daybed. Directly across from this is an open, L-shaped galley with Strato Wind counters and hidden amenities like an electric hob, a combination oven, a stainless steel sink, chilled storage and a mixer tap. The galley connects to a wet bar out on the aft deck thanks to sliding glass doors and fold-up window panes, establishing a strong sense of connection between indoors and out.

The wet-bar is the perfect place to mix up cocktails, access freshly cracked ice and grill up some Wagyu burgers while staying in close conversation with the other guests. Some will be found at the transom sofa, making use of a cocktail table out here, while others will have already descended down the port-side transom steps and set off on swimming adventures from the wrap-around platforms either side of the outboards. Active guests will be pleased to note that there are hidden storage compartments under plenty of the seats so that you can bring watersports gear with you. If you prefer lazy afternoons spent in unabashed sunshine then head out onto the foredeck, where a modular sunpad boasts pop-up back-rests with a Cabana sunshade for idyllic, secluded moments with a loved one or simply just the ability to lay out flat and develop that consistent tan you’ve been looking for. High steel guardrails out here add a sense of security to the space, and many a guest will snap a few Instagram pics while leaning up against the bow for that sense of windswept drama.

Down on the lower deck there are two capacious staterooms for four overnight guests with strip-glazing, mood lighting and a lavish sensibility perfect for recharging the batteries or enjoy long lie-ins. Thanks to the superb build quality across this vessel you can even catch a few winks while on the move, with engine noise rarely breaching the 70 decibel mark while gently gliding along at 11 knots. The VIP room by the bow features a king-sized bed, a skylight and a cedar-lined armoire, along with direct access to a marble and timber lined en suite with a glass sink, a flush toilet and a wet-room shower with a teak lattice sole. The master cabin to aft, meanwhile, boasts a king-sized bed that can be divided up into two twins, a timber-lined closet, a plush side sofa and use of the primary head with a ceramic vessel sink and a wide vanity mirror.
