regal LS36

Sometimes boats belong in a class of their own. Whether it’s the unexpected build quality, a bit of extra length, uncommon amenities, or a new style that catches the eye, such a vessel does not fit into established norms: it creates a category that is entirely new. This is the case with Regal’s LS36, a vessel launched in 2021 that combines the very best qualities of a luxury cruiser and a day-boat to invent a new style of craft: the day-yacht. At 37-feet in length, this is the largest bowrider produced by Regal at their modern facility in Orlando, Florida, and certainly delivers the sort of heft not usually seen in that class.

Shaped like a smooth skipping stone with lines that slope both towards the bow and subtly down to stern, this boat’s style has more in common with the sorts of sports cruisers seen docking in at Key Largo or Capri than any humble runabout. An aerodynamic cockpit hood with three sides of glazing and a gravity-defying overhang gives this boat a striking silhouette from profile, while up close guests will be amazed at the superior materials used to give this vessel a deluxe finish. Complete your look with a custom gel-coating in the remarkable tones of Bimini Blue or Tahiti Beach White or add a bootstripe flourish in the sedate colors of Belle Isle Blue or Graphite.

No lover of shop-worn templates, Regal designs each and every boat afresh, taking into consideration client habits, engine requirements, hull forms and the latest available technology. The LS36 features a proprietary FasTrac hull-form with a variable deadrise of 16 degrees constructed out of lightweight yet durable resin-infused fiberglass. The ride is quiet, smooth and efficient, with the sort of balance and circling ability that edges this vessel over into the sports yacht category. You’ll carve through the placid waters of the Great Lakes but have enough true seaworthiness to hold your own out in genuine bluewater conditions, too.

Stern-drives on this boat whip the water into a cauldron behind them, reaching top speeds of up to 50 knots with twin Volvo 380 engines, just one of many power options available to owners. The sweetest spot to drive this elegant performer is at a fuel-efficient 29 knots, a speed at which you will tour the oceans for nearly 200 miles before refueling.

A sense of the unique continues at the helm station, where Regal has introduced a rare companion screen facing the port seating. This allows guests to feel part of the piloting experience, to check mapping, GPS, weather conditions and system information, while the screen can also be used to control the yacht’s home entertainment system. To starboard there is a more typical helm station featuring bow thruster controls as an optional extra that will help you to negotiate tricky marina and coastal settings, along with either an EVX2 Volvo Joystick on the stern-drive for ultra-responsive handling on the move. Add to this a power-assisted steering wheel for hands-on grappling with the waves, a Garmin Open Array radar system, a FLIR night-vision camera, trim tab switches, a multi-function touch-screen device and handheld VHF radio and you have everything required to chart your entirely personalized course offshore.

Piloting at this helm will never be uncomfortable thanks to a twin piloting seat with an actuating footrest and three sides of wrap-around glazing that shield captains not only from spray but from the weather, too. On sunnier days touring the Aegean or tacking out to Catalina you can open up the windows and connect with the elements, while an electronic retractable hard-top sunroof can open up at the touch of a button so that busy pilots, too, can work on their tan.

A central walk-through built into the windscreen leads guests out to one half of the exquisite seating on this particularly sociable vessel. A pair of forward-facing twin seats look toward a loveseat nestled right up against the bow, with surfaces lined in diamond-stitched, marine-grade upholstery in your choice of color, from plush Hitch beige to sedate River Rock tan. The seats surround a pop-up table with an authentic, high-gloss teak finish, and when this table is flipped down into place an extra set of cushions can connect the three sofas together to create a pair of chic chaise-longues. It’s not hard to imagine the entire family taking advantage of this sublime and convivial space to down fresh oysters or munch on warm lobster rolls, washed down with a crisp chilled beer or a sparkling soft drink. Further seating is located in the adaptable cockpit, where a pair of L-shaped sofas share space with a walk-in galley kitchen. Fire up the grill and barbecue hamburgers for the whole family, keep your drinks chilled in the cockpit refrigerator or under-helm Yeti Cooler, and keep your champagne on the chunks of ice you will have stored in the freezer. Place your drinks on the two optional tables out here, or make use of the steel-framed cupholders that have been intuitively placed throughout the cockpit.

Guests who prefer to keep active will be pleased to note that the cockpit includes a couple of huge in-sole storage units for sporting gear or scuba equipment, one of which can be plumbed and macerated to be used as a fish-box. A transom gate to starboard leads out to a full-beam, SeaDek-lined swim platform with a hydraulically actuating step-level that lowers guests into the water. This boat also features a transom aft-sofa with views out to stern, day-bed dimensions for those who prefer to lounge flat and a comfortable backrest. Integrated speakers affixed to stern bring the music to you even when you’re practicing your breaststroke.

There is no need to go in search of hotel accommodation after you have docked in at a harbor for the night, as this boat features a snug quarter berth that can be used for excess storage or equipped with a mattress and be used for quick naps and cozy overnight stays. Accessed via a bow seat that easily lifts up to reveal the hidden space below, this cabin is joined by a lower deck head that is located behind the companion helm screen. Lined in sleek grey timber, the head features a toilet with a discharge system, a mirror and a ceramic sink, proving that home comforts need not be sacrificed when spending time on a day-yacht.
