regal LX2

Sometimes a boat comes along that raises the bar. With its uncommonly luxurious finish, the range and breadth of its convenient amenities, and an artfully designed deck layout that enhances spaciousness, the Regal LX2 is just that sort of boat. Entry-level outboards, or bowriders of any sort, are not supposed to be this stylish, this comfortable, or this powerful. Despite a hull length of just 22-feet, this vessel makes quite a splash, with an outsized impact on discerning clients the world over since its launch in 2020. Boasting a super-sleek look with sporty lines, clean curves both to the bow and to transom, a graphite gel-coating and authentic, high-class materials throughout, the LX2 certainly looks the part. Next-generation outboards, meanwhile, generate a mean presence on the water for the sort of prowess, speed and stamina that straddles the divide between day-boat and speedboat.

Believe it or not, but there is room for up to 10 guests to enjoy languid afternoons spent relaxing across the deck of this Regal boat. There’s no magic involved, just a painstakingly meticulous approach to space-making and an ingenious, adaptable layout that maximizes comfort, conviviality and classy style. Head beyond a walk-through panel in the curved and tempered windscreen and find yourself in a compact bow lounge with wrap-around seating and cushioned backrests up against the bulwark. A trio of guests can enjoy languid and lazy afternoons out here, or a pair of guests can lay out flat on a pair of chaise-lounges for hours dipping in and out of your favorite page-turner. If at-sea drinks are more your thing, then a pedestal table lined in authentic teak, along with a set of integrated cup-holders, are on hand for convenient and secure storage. Alternatively, lower the table into place, cover it with a hand-stitched filler cushion, and transform this area into one casbah-style daybed ideal for curling up with a loved one.

The cockpit, lined in non-slip Seagrass or Seadek, boasts even more space, and features edge-to-edge seating and four single seats with adjustable backrests so that you can spin around to face the action. The rumble seats to transom, for instance, can face inwards for a more sociable appeal, or pushed back to turn them into a pair of stern-facing daybeds ideal for watching the surf and spying passing pods of dolphins. A teak-lined cockpit table, integrated speakers, plenty of cup-holders and the option to install a Bimini shade round out the appeal back here, while deluxe finishes including stainless steel fixtures, a powder-coated Power Tower and upholstery in refined tones like Hitch or River Rock add an undeniable touch of class.

Stay active to stern where a pair of bathing platforms either side of the outboard offer opportunity for refreshing swims in crystal clear waters, while underwater night-lighting adds an enchanting and memorable quality to your swimming experience after the sun goes down. A ski-pylon back here allows you to engage in water-skiing and wakeboarding, with your line raised well clear of the motor, and a transom shower fixture is on hand for a quick and convenient wash-down after you land back on deck. And there’s plenty of room for watersports storage throughout, with gas-assisted hidden compartments beneath the seats, built into the sole and in the cockpit glovebox.

The added advantage of outboard power, and one that opens up new opportunities for guests and pilots alike, is the ability to ride your vessel wherever you want, even in the sort of shallow waters that a conventional inboard would have to avoid. Park your vessel steps away from a secluded beach or isolated sandbar, explore atmospheric backwaters ringed with mangroves or estuaries home to migrating wildfowl, or just steer your vessel to the jetty of your favorite waterside restaurant for an entrance that will have heads turning.

You can pick between a range of single outboard motors to power the LX2, including a 150HP Yamaha 2.7L engine that comes as standard. Upgrade to a top-of-the-range 250-horsepower Yamaha 4.2L F250XB for punchier speeds of up to 45 knots, more than 11 knots higher than the standard option, and acceleration that leaves the rest of the pack struggling to keep up. At a silky smooth cruising speed of 24 knots the latter engines deliver an efficient 3.42 miles to the gallon, while the boat’s fuel tank holds 56 gallons, more than enough to keep you out exploring all day long. The proprietary Regal FasTrac hull, a much emulated but never bettered feature, will also deliver up to 30% better fuel efficiency in comparison to equivalent vessels from other manufacturers, while also delivering a speedy, balanced and agile ride.

Perhaps the most rewarding place to find yourself while aboard this vessel is at the extra-wide seat facing the starboard helm. Up here you will enjoy a best-in-class piloting experience, making use of an LED-backlit dashboard for stylish night-time piloting with a pair of futuristic Garmin touchscreens that deliver instrumentation at the touch of a fingertip. A hand-wrapped power-assisted steering wheel delivers that sense of control you have long been looking for, responding to your every touch for the sort of agility you would associate with a slick racing car. Add autopilot, GPS and throttles to the mix and you can see why riding this sporty boat is such a joy.
