southport 33 DC

Dual Console… Double Comfort

For nearly a decade now, Southport Boats has been devoted to offering family-friendly fishing boats that can handle offshore conditions like nobody’s business. Now an iconic and industry-leading brand, Southport’s boats are highly sought-after for their famously rugged (and dry!) C. Raymond Hunt-designed deep-V hulls which combine an elegant Carolina flare and an aggressive 22-degree deadrise that makes for a smooth, stable, wave-eating ride that can easily support the weight of outboard engines.

The Southport 33 DC is the brand’s first foray into the bustling dual console market, and it doesn’t disappoint. A hearty handshake between hardcore anglers and relaxed cruisers, the 33 DC is a triumph of form, function and family fun without compromising on fishability. Users can hunt tuna in the canyons with the ferocious focus of Hemingway himself, dropping their jigs in the dead of night and relishing the struggle of the fight. Or they can take their kids (or grandkids) on board during the day and teach them how to cast a rod before relaxing at anchor with the whole family. This boat does it all.

Three convivial seating areas connect seamlessly from the aft deck through the dual console and up to the stern, providing ample space to socialize with friends and family. Though plush and comfortable, there is no ‘fat’ to speak of on this boat, which features a clever, space-maximizing layout. The aft-mezzanine seating has a choice of cooler or dry storage underneath and faces the foldaway L-shaped aft cockpit lounge area, perfect for five or six people to chat and enjoy the sea breeze. But as soon as these seats fold up, the cockpit transforms into a serious fishing arena, with three rod holders in the gunwale, a superb livewell and cooler box with overboard drainage in the transom, and optional in-deck macerated fishboxes, coldplates, and outriggers to hold the line and put the fight back in your hands when your luck starts to turn.

The standard starboard dive-door aboard the 33 DC is a testament to the versatility of this boat. Naturally suited for free- and scuba-diving, it doubles (or is that triples?) as a side entrance and a tuna door for hauling fish aboard. Swim platforms with hull rub rails sit on either side of the outboard engines, allowing you and your guests to take a bracing dip in the sea, or simply sit at the edge and admire the sunset as it sinks below the horizon.

Enclosed on three sides, the 33 DC is as close to an all-weather boat as you can get. As comfortable in the rough, cold waters of the Maine coast – where Southport’s craftsmen are based – as it is under the sweltering Florida skies, this boat also features an optional air-conditioning system that can reverse-cycle heat when needed, further extending your boating season.

An entertainment center sits just beneath the hardtop to starboard, with a freshwater sink, customizable storage cabinets with slide-out drawers for further storage, and a convenient and discreet slide-out garbage can. A standard stainless-steel refrigerator can also be found here, perfect for sandwiches, a bottle of wine, or fresh filets wrapped in the day’s newspaper. Owners can upgrade this area to a mini-galley with an optional grill, a huge bonus if you want to grill up some red grouper, bass, or whatever fate delivers on your line.

The bridge deck is a just-right, Goldilocks blend of performance and sociability, with an L-shaped lounge and table to port of the helm, which features a plush Stidd captain’s chair and ample space for either a single or dual electronic setup. Integrated speaker pods in the hardtop are a perfect way to set the mood, allowing owners – and, if they’re lucky, guests – to crank up their favorite tunes. This space has a light, free-flowing feel thanks to two opening hatches overhead, while the starboard window in the lounge opens to allow more breeze to circulate throughout the console.

A central panel in the windshield opens fully, providing a straight thoroughfare from aft to stern and easy access to the bow, which features a stunning seating area with a teak table perfect for cocktails or a light meal. Owners and guests can congregate on the U-shaped seating for an early-morning coffee before a long day of fishing, or chat late into the night over drinks – a cooler below the portside seat makes it easy to stash beers or other refreshments, while speakers in the cupholder pockets let you set the soundtrack for your journey. Like the aft cockpit, this space easily transforms into a dedicated fishing area thanks to removable the removable seats and table.

With hatches in the console that leading to a portside cabin and a starboard head, longer trips and island-hopping are no longer a distant dream. Unlike many other dual console cabins, this is a bright and well-appointed space, thanks to an opening porthole and an overhead hatch that invite in cheerful natural light. Two six-foot long berths to fore and aft will impress owners and one lucky guest, perfect for escaping the heat of the day. Plenty of storage space has been integrated throughout, while a long, low-profile table separates the beads and offers space for creature comforts like a vase of flowers or simply a space for your phone and watch to rest for the night. The head is surprisingly spacious for a boat of this size, with an L-shaped counterspace featuring a sink, long vanity mirror, cabinet storage and space for all your toiletries.

The 33 DC has a range of standard engines and optional upgrades, from your choice of twin Yamaha, Mercury, or Suzuki 350-horsepower outboards to thrilling dual Yamaha 425-horsepower XTO offshore outboards offered in an array of different colors.
