sea fox 248 COMMANDER

You can catch big fish in a small boat. As stylish as a glove and as versatile as a mullet, the Sea Fox 248 Commander is, as Sea Fox puts it, “family friendly in the bow, fisherman-friendly in the stern.” With elegantly sociable seating at the bow and muscular fishing amenities aft, you can transform this boat from entertainment hub to fish-fighting machine in an instant. Whether you’re up for a spot of fishing or leisurely day cruising, the 248 Commander has something for everyone.

From its wide, shapely Carolina flare to its impeccable stainless-steel brightwork, the 248 Commander cuts a smart, aggressive figure that will stand out in the marina and out on the water. Stainless-steel fittings glint in the sun. Owners can customize their 248 Commander with a range of premium gelcoats from the classic Pearl White or the gravitas of Silver Shark to a cool Bahama Blue or an Arctic Blue that will rival the beauty of the water itself.

Not many 26-footers can hack choppy water, but this boat’s 18-degree deadrise and 14-inch draft ensure a smooth, dry ride. And while this boat may be on the small side, keep hold of your hat – it is wickedly agile, planing at lightning speed. Designed around a single four-stroke 250HP Yamaha, this boat offers a wide range of speed that allows owners to set their own pace: from a sensible cruising speed of 23.2 with a fuel economy of 6.3GPH to max speeds upward of 48MPH. Although this peppy standard engine reaches 0-30 in 6.3 seconds, owners may choose to upgrade to a more powerful 300HP Yamaha engine.

Aboard this boat, you can hunt your big catch in the morning and enjoy a chilled glass of rosé right as the sun dips below the horizon. In between, you can fit a round of seabathing into your schedule thanks to the generous teak swim platform and its easy-to-use collapsible swim ladder. Or take things up a notch and use the removable ski tow bar for waterski or wakeboard adventures. When you return, a freshwater shower is in the transom to rinse the salt from your skin. Of course, angling buffs will immediately notice the aquarium-style pressurized live bait tank to port with an integrated dip-net storage space. And while this will certainly keep your bait fresher than fresh, it is also a conversation-starter sure to enchant your non-fisher guests (especially any kids or grandkids on board).

The helm itself is a pilot’s dream. Two helm seats – which fold back to form a leaning post – share a wide backrest, with marine-grade upholstery and two footrests below for comfort. Beneath the leaning post is a cooler, perfect for cold cuts and a few bottles of beer. The console has enough space for two 10-inch multifunction displays, low-mounted backlit switches, Bluetooth control for six Fusion speakers throughout the boat, and a Dometic SeaStar hydraulic steering tilt helm for exceptional maneuvering control. The battery switch is easily accessible, flipping down from the console, while another small compartment folds down to reveal two USB ports for your guests to charge their phones and other electronics. A further phone charging compartment can be found above, as well as easily-accessible storage for your fire extinguisher and important documents.

The day head, which is hidden in plain sight, will significantly extend your time out on the water. To port of the helm, there is a door down to the surprisingly spacious head with nearly standing-room height. A standard portable toilet is fitted here, but many owners choose to install an optional electric flush toilet.

Sea Fox’s dedication to comfort shines through in the little details, things that set new standards for boats of this class. The T-top not only provides shelter from the midday sun, it also has built-in misters to keep you and your guests cucumber-cool even in sunnier climes. A sunroof up top adds a cool, classy touch while the high windshield keeps the sea spray at bay. Four tulip rod holders and an LED anchor light can be found here as well, in addition to optional outriggers.

This boat’s fishing prowess continues throughout the stern. All you have to do is grab your tackle from the clever recessed under-gunwale rod storage, mount your rod on one of four further stainless-steel rodholders – then wait for your quarry to rise up from the depths and take your fresh, live bait. Once the line starts twitching and the fish fighting begins in earnest, Sea Fox has made it easier to take the struggle around the boat, with powder-coated toe rails for safety and recessed trim tabs that won’t snatch the line. And after you’ve taken your photo op with your big catch, you can store it in the insulated fishbox cleverly concealed beneath the long transom seat. While you gut the fish, a raw water washdown stands by ready to rinse away the mess.

Out on the bow, however, it’s all about relaxation and entertainment (although you can cast from the table). Seasoned boaters will be impressed by the innovative U-shaped seating features two full-size seats spanning the narrowest point of the bow, making sure no space is wasted on this vessel. A very large hi-lo table locks into place when lifted, providing the perfect stage for late afternoon cocktails and tapas. Cupholders can be found throughout this space,. When the table is lowered, a filler cushion can be placed here to create a sumptuous lounge.
